Dear parents, students, and educators:

I would like to extend a heartfelt best wishes as we start a new school year. This is always such an exciting time as we continue the learning process, renew old friendships, and make memories that will last a lifetime.

I want to take this moment to share my appreciation for everything our educators do to help students in the great 13th District.

During this past year I served on the Education and Neighborhoods Committee and I was so incredibly proud of the work my office accomplished with the help of the Los Angeles Unified School District.

-I worked with Los Angeles Unified School District and led the effort to provide a free summer meals program for children under the age of 18 at City parks and recreation centers during the summer months.

-I was proud to work to direct policy that regulates e-cigarettes the same way as tobacco products, which gives educators the tools to crack down on usage in schools.

-I recently authored a motion directing the Los Angeles food Policy Task Force to report to Council on the City’s food purchasing guidelines, with an emphasis on departments that feed children and families.

-I have visited several schools, met with parents and faculty members, and helped identifyoutside resources specific to the school to help the students.

-In addition to this, I am thrilled to host student visits to City Hall, and enjoy personally welcoming them to the Council Chamber.

My staff and I will work hard to connect schools in 13th District with the city resources that are available and we look forward to helping schools reach new heights. If you have any questions, please contact my Education Deputy Star Parsamyan at 213-473-7013 or star.parsamyan@lacity.org.

Warm regards,

Mitch O'Farrell
