Los Angeles City Councilmember Mitch O'Farrell and his staff descended upon a little cafe in the heart of Hollywood's theater district on Thursday to show their support for local and independently owned small business.
The CD13 Lunch Bunch -- a somewhat planned cash mob-- spent their lunch hour at Eat This Cafe. The restaurant is located at 6547 Santa Monica Blvd, west of Vine.
The purpose of the monthly event is to shine the spotlight on a topic that the Councilmember is passionate about -- helping the local economy by supporting the entrepreneurs who add to the colorful fabric of the 13th District.
"Small businesses provide three quarters of all the jobs in Los Angeles, so it is important that we show our support," said O'Farrell. "Lunch Bunch gives my staff and I an opportunity to spend time together and bond while supporting a local neighborhood serving food establishment."
Eat This owner Marcy Blaustein says her business grew from her catering work with local production companies. Blaustein says her lunch and weekend brunch is doing well and that she is even looking to open a second location.
Studies have shown that more tax dollars stay in our neighborhoods when consumers spend money at local and independently owned businesses. [SOURCE]
