Los Angeles City Councilmembers Mitch O'Farrell and Tom LaBonge dedicated a first-of-its kind bike infrastructure project in Hollywood.
The Los Angeles Department of Transportation made the improvements to Yucca Street between Cahuenga Boulevard and Highland Avenue include added sharrows (shared lane markings), new way finding signs, and modified street signs that clearly indicate Yucca Street's status as a bicycle friendly street facility.
"The bicycle improvements on Yucca Street create a safer and easier way to travel through the hectic Hollywood Boulevard corridor," said Councilmember Mitch O'Farrell. "This is the first of its kind in the City, and I'm proud that more bike-friendly streets are starting right here in my district."
The Councilmember also said that three intersections have new permanent diverters that forbid through-traffic for automobiles, while allowing bicycles to go east-west the length of Yucca Street.
"Let's take 'nobody walks in L.A.' and make it 'nobody drives in Hollywood," said LaBonge. "Yucca Street is for bikes."
