O'FARRELL, DEPARTMENT OF NEIGHBORHOOD EMPOWERMENT ENCOURAGE ANGELENOS TO PARTICIPATE IN NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL ELECTIONS

CITY HALL - Los Angeles City Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell, along with the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment, announced candidate eligibility requirements and election dates for all Neighborhood Councils in the great 13th District.

“I started my career in public service in the 1990’s as a grassroots activist, collaborating with my neighbors and the City Council office to better our communities,” said Councilmember O’Farrell. “I encourage you to get involved, cast your vote, and participate in the democratic process. The neighborhood councils can provide constituents with an opportunity to become better acquainted with issues, as well as become familiar with city government and how it works.”

The Department has set several key dates for elections. Here is a list along with links for further information.

This election cycle will also be the first time that residents can participate in the voting process on the Internet. This is voting at your convenience, with your choice of time and place. You can vote at any time during the several weeks leading up to the final election date from your computer, smartphone, or telephone land line. This pilot program is only available for Glassell Park and Silver Lake residents.

"We're excited that Neighborhood Councils continue to innovate in the government process by piloting online voting for the City of Los Angeles - an idea that was first suggested by the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council in 2010,” said Grayce Liu, General Manager, Department of Neighborhood Empowerment.

The neighborhood councils were created by charter to encourage greater public participation in government and give residents an even larger role in determining the quality of their lives.

*Online Voting Opens 3 weeks before election day, but you can register now by going to http://empowerla.org/vrp/  You will still have the ability to vote at the polls on election day, too.
