There’s a summer tradition taking place this week and I want to encourage your family to participate.
America’s Night Out Against Crime will celebrate 31 years on Tuesday, August 5. Communities across America and right here in the 13th District will organize and meet up, sending a strong message to everyone that we are ready to fight crime.
The event began in 1984 as an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, and neighborhood camaraderie. Crime is down in the 13th District:
Northeast Division: Violent crime: -14.7%, total property: -9.9%,
total part I: -10.6%
Hollywood Division: Violent crime: -15.8%, total property: -16.9%,
total part I: -16.7%
Rampart Division: Violent crime: -20.5%, total property: -0.6%,
total part I: -6.5%
Olympic Division: violent crime: -2.8%, total property: -9.2%,
total part I: -7.8%
However we can and must do more to keep crime from harming our neighborhoods.
Public Safety is one of my top priorities, which is why I ask that you to join me at one of the four events next Tuesday night across the district. The details can be found on my website cd13.com.
See you on Tuesday.
