Here's a recap of the weekend events and the people who make the 13th District the best place to live, work, and play in the City of Los Angeles.
The inaugural docent training class took place at Echo Park Lake over the weekend. Councilmember Mitch O'Farrell started this initiative in order to empower park goers with the knowledge on how to properly retrieve trash from the body of water -- which in some places is home to the beautiful and delicate Lotus flower.
Next, the Iglesia ni Cristo Church helped organize a community cleanup in Historic Filipinotown. The Councilmember was very appreciative of the work and extends his sincere gratitude to all the volunteers and neighbors who participated. A special thanks to the Central City Action Committee who painted out graffiti in the area.
Finally, East Hollywood Field Deputy Aram Taslagyan had the honor of presenting Marie Cassanelli who has been a volunteer at Children's Hospital for 50 years! The hospital honored the volunteers during a luncheon over the weekend. "Marie epitomizes what it means to truly be a great community leader," said Taslagyan. "I can imagine how many lives Marie has touched and how many smiles she's put on the faces of children. It was an honor for me to be there on the Councilmember's behalf."
Congratulations on the honor, Marie!
