I wanted to share some news that will help keep your family even safer in the 13th Council District.

The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) and MySafe:LA will distribute free smoke detectors to Los Angeles residents. These smoke detectors will be distributed at fire stations across the district while supplies last.

Here is a list of fire stations in the 13th District:

#6 - 326 N Virgil Avenue Los Angeles 90004
#20 - 2144 W Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles 90026
#50 - 3036 Fletcher Drive Los Angeles 90065
#52 - 4957 Melrose Avenue Los Angeles 90029
#82 - 5769 W Hollywood Blvd. Los Angeles 90028

There have been too many fire-related fatalities across the City, tragically, a few of them here in the 13th District. You might recall the apartment fire in Echo Park that killed two people and displaced many families.

I am dedicated to improving fire-safety in our district and the initiation of this free smoke detector program is an excellent way in which we can continue to achieve our goals of making sure every family in my district is safe.

Also today, the LAFD launched a public safety campaign ‘Fire Burns. Smoke Kills.’ This campaign will be discussed in our schools and raise awareness among school-aged Angelenos. I am glad to see the implementation of this fire-safety awareness program that I helped author along with my colleagues in City Hall.

I commend the LAFD, MySafe:LA, the LA County Fire Department, and the Los Angeles Unified School District for the excellent work in educating all of us on fire safety and emergency preparedness. The programs announced today will truly make our City and neighborhoods a safer place for us to live.
