Fighting for Alternative 20

I want to extend my sincere appreciation for the turnout from the local, state, and federal elected officials who joined me at a press event to show unified support for revitalizing the Los Angeles River.

The show of support was impressive:

Xavier Becerra, Congressman (CA-34)

Lucille Roybal-Allard, Congresswoman (CA-40)

Jimmy Gomez, Assemblymember, 51st District

Adrin Nazarian, Assemblymember 46th District

Richard Bloom, Assemblymember, 50th District

Gil Cedillo, Councilmember, 1st District

Tom LaBonge, Councilmember, 4th District

Laura Friedman, City of Burbank Councilmemeber

Following the press event, we spoke at a public hearing that was organized by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) who heard public testimony on several proposals to revitalize the crown jewel of our great city.

As you may have seen on my website [LINK], City officials and state leaders support Alternative 20, which is the most inclusive plan in the Army Corps study. The cost for this alternative is $1.08 billion.

If Congress can waste $24 billion dollars on a government shutdown, then we can certainly find the funding for recreational space that will benefit Americans for decades to come, plus result in billions of dollars in economic development along our Los Angeles River.

Our region is speaking in one voice. Alternative 20 is the way to go -- it will bring quality of life enhancements to a great plurality of Angelenos who live, recreate, and work near the River.

Alternative 20 will create an even greater destination for people from across the region, across the state, and across the country. The revitalization efforts will return the River's natural habitat that our ancestors enjoyed, and certify our status as a world-class city.

Tell me what you think of the plans to revitalize the river! The comment period has been extended to November 18.
